Amelia Horney (b. 2001) is a New York and Los Angeles based composer whose work is very emotionally and visually driven. She finds other art-forms, concepts about the human condition, and her surroundings to be deeply inspiring. She is fascinated by expansive and surreal imagery, from both paintings and from her own dreams. Amelia also enjoys scoring film and bringing directors’ visions to life. Through her poetry and music, Amelia loves to explore her own relationship with her queerness, mental health, and is a huge advocate for those who identify with these experiences. When she is not composing, you can find Amelia making light installations, attending concerts and shows, singing in her university’s premiere treble choir, Oriana, and playing with her adorable Sphynx cat, Kiwi.
Amelia has participated in summer festivals such as Curtis Summerfest Young Artist’s Summer Program, Boston University Tanglewood Institute Young Artist Composition Program, Atlantic Music Festival, The Lake George Music Festival Composer Institute, and Del Mar International Composer’s Symposium, where she has had several works premiered by faculty and peers. Amelia has had works premiered by professional ensembles such as Hub New Music and The Rhythm Method String Quartet. She has also attended the NYU Screen Scoring Summer Program. Amelia has earned Bachelor of Music in Composition (Class of 2024) at the University of Southern California, Thornton School of Music where she was a Student Ambassador. She has studied privately with notable composers such as Saad Haddad, Alyssa Weinberg, Andrew Norman, Veronika Krausas, Ted Hearne, Camae Ayewa, and Nina Young.
